Deno v2.3 is almost here
Hey folks! It’s Phil from Deno here.
It’s a busy time this month at Deno Towers as we put the finishing touches on the upcoming v2.3 release. The team have been working on all sorts of quality-of-life improvements, and some really nice features that we’re excited to share soon.
While waiting for 2.3 to land, (and no, continuously typing deno upgrade
in your terminal won’t make it ship any sooner) we thought we’d share some other recent improvements and resources from around the Deno ecosystem.
OTel me more
Deno 2.2 brought built-in OpenTelemetry to drastically improve the observability of applications. There are a number of demos out there now showing how Deno’s OTel automatically instruments APIs like console.log
, Deno.serve
, and fetch
, but we particularly enjoyed watching Ry live-code a demo at DotJS in Paris. Take a look at the video below.

SQLite up my life
We’re also seeing lots of love for the node:sqlite
module which also landed in v2.2. Many of you have been eager for access to something like this to make it easier to work with local or in-memory databases, and the additional support for Node APIs has made this possible.
Our Docs site has an example to help you get started quickly.
I just like gooooold!
This put a smile on our faces…
You may recall that we ran a competition for people to use Deno as part of Advent with Code last December. We were thrilled with the response and even more thrilled to see this video of Justin, unboxing his prize after winning the top spot.

So far, Justin is the only person on the planet to receive an official Deno Gold sticker. We’ve not even let Ry have one.
We’ll give one or maybe two away each year, and we’re working on the next opportunity to earn one. I’m curious, what do you think should justify getting into the Gold club?
Let us know on Twitter or Bluesky.
That’s it for this time. Remember to keep an eye out for v2.3 coming soon, and let us know what you’re hoping it will bring!
